LIFE AMONG DARKNESS…

I had the joy of photographing my dear friend and her sweet baby, Matthew. We first met almost 9 months ago on my first visit to the shelter. Since then we have toured sites in Seoul, taken endless pictures, celebrated my birthday together, and chatted countless hours at the shelter with the other girls…I can truly say she has become a delightful friend. She carries a gentle, sweet spirit and has a heart like a teddy bear.

I kept telling her throughout her pregnancy how excited I was to photograph such a rare, precious gift that is both Filipino and Indian. I knew her baby would be GORGEOUS. And I was right…

6lb baby Matthew is full of energy keeping his momma up all hours of the night. She was hoping he would be a quiet little angel like baby Kayleigh, mother of our friend who had her baby 5 months ago. But she is blessed with a little energetic, active boy.:)

A few of the many expressions of Matthew…

Momma enchanted by his striking dark eyes…

The blanket was given to baby Matthew as a gift from my church.  Many friends wrote a special blessing for Matthew.

I love these intimate shots…so precious.

Momma trying to get as much time in with her sweet son before she has to bring him to the Philippines to be taken care of by her cousin.

Many tears were shed as she gazed into her baby’s eyes knowing she has to leave him in the Philippines while she finishes processing her case in Korea. Yes, my eyes were welding up with tears as I felt her fears and pain of leaving her first child.

To any mother, one month is not nearly enough time to be with your baby before parting ways for an unknown amount of time. I can’t fathom the anguish and heartbreak she is experiencing separating with her little one. The thought of sending your newborn with a complete stranger on a plane alone would send any girl into a panic attack.

Thankfully, with the help of donations from my church and a couple other volunteers, baby Matthew is able to stay in Korea for 2 more weeks and the mother is able to bring him back herself. I watched a huge burden lift as peace came to her when I told her the good news.

Of course it will be gut wrenching to leave her baby no matter how much time she has. But those 2 extra weeks bonding with her little one is an additional 2 weeks of paradise (no matter how fussy the baby is).

I’m so proud of her for choosing life in the mist of darkness. Even though Matthew’s momma has been through some horrible situations that seem impossible, she has been blessed with life.

Some people may deem baby Matthew as a negative result of her circumstance and may even view him as a nuisance. God on the other hand, takes this unbelievably awful situation and is able to bring life out of it. He promises to bring good out of any and all bad situation. (Romans 8:28) The plans for this baby and momma are good and He has a purpose for both their lives.

One of my favs…

Blessings to you my sweet friend and to your beloved little one. Know that Jesus has good plans for YOU and baby Matthew. “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart…” Jeremiah 1:5
